The Things that You Need to Know When Designing E-Commerce Websites
Designing e-commerce websites is different than designing, say, a blog or an artist’s page. There are some websites that are made only on a single page and people would just have to scroll down in order to get the information that they need.
But on an e-commerce website, it is actually quite different. Typical online stores have multiple pages and that will depend on the number of products being sold in the store itself.
That being said, there are certain things that you need to know if you’re planning to build one.
Big and Bold Images
Every person wants to know what they will buy online which is why it is imperative that the online shop owner uploads as many images from as many angles of the product as possible.
Not only that but you have to make sure that they are of the right size and the quality should be superb as well. If you do happen to upload crappy images, then you can expect that your trust rating in the eyes of your consumers will go down as well.
Do not forget to optimize your site’s images for SEO purposes to not only improve page loading speeds, but also to make your website easily reachable via a search engine query.
Experiment with Scarcity
If you have plenty of products on sale, then that could bombard your users and the more time it takes for them to make a decision, they will usually decide to hold off on buying.
Well, you can experiment with scarcity. What does this mean? Well, I want you to go to Amazon and see the products that are of “limited stocks only”. Scarcity will always drive people to buy simply because they are led to believe that that something is not going to come back.
I say ‘experiment’ with it because if you somehow overdo this kind of thing, you can expect a backlash and your customers might not go back to your store anymore if you are caught.
Provide ‘Related’ Products
Unless you are selling only one product, you should always provide products that are related to what a person is currently looking at.
For instance, if you are selling trendy apparel and your customer happens to look at a particular dress, then provide products that will complement that such as some shoes, accessories, etc.
Make It Shareable
A sizable portion of the internet population has social media accounts and if you can provide a feature that will let your customers share certain products from your website directly on their social media platforms, then that would be awesome.
Detailed Product Descriptions Are a Must
There was one time where I wanted to buy something and even though there are plenty of people that can attest to this certain product, I was not convinced. Do you want to know why? Well, that was because it had just a brief product description that barely tells me anything useful about the product.
Look, product descriptions are also quite important because you want to convince your customers to buy something based on the product’s pictures and its description of its features. If you can give that to them, there is no doubt that your conversion rate will increase.
